Solarbotics Wheels

Introduction

Solarbotics - The GMPW wheels are made to match the Solarbotics GM2 and GM3 gearmotors. The wheels are molded from ABS, and they measure just under 67mm diameter by 7.6mm wide. With the included rubber band, the total wheel diameter is about 67mm. The wheels are available in blue, yellow, and black.

The wheels are currently somewhat expensive, but combined with one of the corresponding gearboxes and motors, they are a good value. You can get a pair of gearmotors and wheels for about £17.50, which means that for about the cost of a pair of servos, you can get the entire drive system for your robot.

Solarbotics GMTT GMPW High Traction Upgrade - Part No: 4611-000
Although the rubber traction-bands on the standard GMPW series wheels are good (and even better when double-layered), you need some "good grips" when you start playing mini-sumo in the advanced leagues.

Specifically molded to offer maximum traction, these 14 durometer Shore 'A' elastomer tyres are the easiest way to upgrade your Sumovore to top-level competitiveness. As they are thicker than traction bands, they also increase the rolling diameter of the wheel from 67mm to 71mm.

Solarbotics Servo Wheel Black - Part No: 4611-004
Looking for a quick and easy way to attach a wheel to a servo for a wheeled robot? Here's the answer! This custom-moulded blue wheel is designed to fit to most servo hubs (excluding Hitec), and give solid traction to your robot.

The hubs dimension out at 65mm by 7.62mm wide. Adding one rubber band "tire" to the hub makes the rolling diameter 67mm.

Each wheel comes with two BLACK special-grip rubber bands. We like to double-layer them for an even softer grip in the robot sumo ring!

The GM10 Wheel works very well with the GM10. Simply snip off the self-centering tab on the GM10, unscrew the stock arm and spring, and replace them with this wheel to make a zippy wheel and motor combination!

It measures 25mm diameter, 5.7mm wide and uses well-proven traction-band tyres.

These new hard plastic wheels are specially designed for our GM2 and GM3 gear motor output shafts. Although usable as wheels, we often use these as mounts for legs and other mechanisms as they have convenient mounting holes that match our leg mounting pads.
They are 30mm in diameter, 7mm wide, and the double-flat slot fits onto the gear motor's shaft snuggly.
Wheels are sold individually, and come with a screw and washer to secure it.

Solarbotics RW2 Aluminium Wheel - Part No: 4611-023
This is a beautifully machined aluminum hub with a generously thick rubber tire for maximum traction. The assembly measures in at 31.2mm (1.23in) diameter and 11.2mm (0.44in) wide, drilled for a a 1/8in. (3.18mm) axle - a nice, fat, beefy wheel ideal for small robots! Secure it to your motor shaft with the included 4-40 hex set screw (requires 0.050 inch (1.27mm) hex wrench, sorry it's an American size.

Sometimes you just have to have treads, especially if you need a high-mobility solution for your robotics project.

These 23mm wide x 12mm long tread links are very well designed, using 1/16" steel pins press-fit into precision CNC-drilled (not moulded!) mounting holes. These treads will most likely outlive your robot!
